Advice from a Rhode Island Divorce Lawyer With 30 Years of Experience

In my 30 years of practicing family law in Rhode Island, one could say I've seen it all. I've worked with hundreds of couples who were getting divorced or were fighting about a child custody case in court. I've seen people take actions that increased barriers and hostility, and I've seen couples who handled the end of their relationship extraordinarily well. I've seen couples who made decisions that harmed their children and couples who worked together to protect their children and their relationships with their children. I've gained some insights that should be shared.

I've also seen how Rhode Island divorce law has changed over time and the impact that has had on my clients. Many of these changes have been beneficial. For example, family law has become increasingly more fair and even-handed when it comes to men's rights and fathers' rights . It's not a perfect system, but we've come a long way.

The justice system and family courts have also made great strides in recognizing and protecting the victims of family violence.
